The dust has now settled on the Luncarty battle ground and I can exclusively reveal the final placings in this year's Scottish Open;
Hunter H has prepared a run-down of his stunning victory... For this year's competition I chose Ghaznavid a) because I thought it might do well with the current tilt towards cavalry armies in competitions and at least be fun if it didn’t, and b) because I usually buy and paint a new army before each competitionThe army comprised:-
Game One versus John Conley with Ancient British JC took the all slingers and light chariot option. He had cunningly pasted 2 to a base to make them look a bit more daunting. The veneer cracked however in the first round of shooting. I unit of 6 chariots versus 12 Ghilman cavalry to their front, 9 shots, 7 hits, disrupted with 1 casualty – ouch. That’s pretty much how it went with the superior cavalry and elephants smashing up the line for a 25-0 win. John finished the competition on a record 0 points and was awarded the Perth Wargames prize for endeavour. A noble opponent who was a pleasure to play not least as he smacked a tub (yes a tub) of maltesers down on the table Game Two versus Ian MacKay with Catalan Company A harder match up which was won after a few scary moments by the elephants grinding away at Ian’s impact foot. When time was called Ian was 1 attrition point from defeat which was mirrored in the score line of 13-7 to the good guys. Game Three versus Andrew Muir using Medieval Crown of Aragon Table 2 at last but facing an army with 4 BGs of knights. Andrew deployed on the billiard table that was the battle field with his foot in the centre and 2 BGs of knights on each wing. The Ghaznavids deployed from the left with the elephants then the Ghilman cavalry then the Nomads. Andrew marched his crossbows towards the advancing Elephants. The Ghilman cavalry then redeployed to face the oncoming crossbows whilst the elephants sought out something/anything that couldn’t shoot at them. The Ghilman cavalry then faded away to the flanks of the crossbows with the elephants bearing down on a BG of knights which failed too many CMTs to get out of their way. With most of Andrew's army skirmished out of the game the crossbows took on the Ghilman cavalry and the knights the elephants in a very uneven match up which resolved itself to a 25-0 win for the Islamic converts. Game Four versus John Munro’s Later Polish To follow …….. HH |
